A caring and compassionate gubernatorial candidate embraced the plight of the poor, laborers, and many others who needed a voice. His impact was significant, but not as great as his desire to help his fellow man. Ramsey Muņiz realized the need for Mexican Americans, Hispanics and Latinos to have representation in the realm of politics through the United States electoral process. He stepped forward and became a candidate for governor in Texas running under the Raza Unida Party, an independent political party. He and others, many of whom were students, made great contributions through their leadership in an established democratic processs, and their success is an example to the youth of today who are not involved in the political process.
